What is EFT?

Emotional Freedom Technique, or EFT as it is better known, was originally developed by Gary Craig in the early 90s and was introduced in Australia in 2007 when it was accredited by the Australian Holistic Healer’s and Counsellor’s Association.

EFT is fast becoming one of the leading energy therapies used by highly respected clinicians, and psychologists for the fast resolution of mental, emotional and psychosomatic issues. It is an immensely profound method to remove blockages in success, health and happiness in our lives.

The basic EFT technique involves holding a disturbing memory or emotion in mental focus and simultaneously using the fingers to tap on a series of specific points on the body that correspond to meridians used in Chinese medicine (acupuncture). The tapping procedure gently realigns the body’s energy system without the discomfort of needles. The understanding behind EFT is that the negative emotions are caused by disturbances in the body’s energy field and that tapping on the meridians while thinking of a negative emotion changes the body’s energy field, restoring it back to ‘balance’.

Development of negative emotions happens in stages: (i) first a negative experience happens; (ii) in response to the experience, negative emotions are felt in the body; (iii) this leads to an inappropriate programming inside the body; (iv) then the body’s energy system ie the energy meridians gets disrupted due to these negative emotions.; (v) these result in physical symptoms, like pain, nausea, depression, anxiety, fear or phobia etc., which then gets attached to the memory of that experience; (vi) these memories and the attached emotions then affect the way we then start perceiving things in future until the disruption is healed.

EFT can realign the energy meridians with respect to those negative memories, disconnect the physical discomfort that were attached to it, and consequently removes the resulting symptoms. This allows healing to take place on both a conscious and a sub-conscious level.

How long is an EFT Session?

EFT session can last between 30 - 60 minutes.

What happens during an EFT Session?

In the initial consultation I find out the issue concerning the client and the level of discomfort on a scale of 1-10 is established to check the progress at the end of the session. On the basis of the findings, I then develop some phrases suitable to the client’s issue and explain the location of tapping points and how to tap. On permission from the client I may even tap on the client to assist if the client is too nervous. While tapping on the phrases related to the negative emotion some other related emotions may be experienced by the client. A regular check of the oncoming emotions is maintained by me and with simultaneous tapping clearing of the emotions and reduction in the intensity starts occurring.

Client is also given a management plan to manage the upcoming of any emotion for self-help at home.

How Many Sessions are required?

Simpler issues can be resolved instantaneously in one session while for complex issues several sessions may be required

EFT is a very easy to learn and is ideal for self-help. I will teach the client in how to use it for self-help purpose. However, for complex issues it is advised to be done with an EFT professional.

The technique can be used anywhere and whenever required. It does not require any other tools to carry.

It can help with emotional and physical issues such as weight-loss, fears of flying, spiders, enclosed spaces, anger and anxiety, phobias, blockages in career, social anxiety etc. It is an excellent technique to help people in a very simple way that takes hardly any effort, except of course 5 or 10 minutes of time every day, or on needs basis.
